Birth Doula
What do our services include?
Pre-natal
At least one prenatal visit at or about 37 weeks unless otherwise arranged by you. At that time your doula will explore and discuss your priorities for your birth as well as any fears or concerns. Your doula will explore with you your own best ways of coping with the pain and fatigue of labor and how you and your partner foresee working together. At this visit your doula will leave all of her contact numbers with you. Your doula and/or her back up is available for you to contact 24 hrs a day 7 days a week to discuss any concerns and answer questions you may have prior to the birth. Should there be a time when your doula is unavailable for labor support she will inform you, she will also as arrange for a back-up   doula, whom you may also meet if you would like.
When you are in labor
It is preferable that you call your doula when you think you might be in labor, even if you do not need her yet. She can answer questions and make suggestions over the phone. Your doula will need approximately one hour (longer in bad weather) to get to you from the time you ask her to come. Except for extraordinary circumstances, she will remain with you throughout your entire labor and birth.
After the birth
Your doula will remain with you for at least an hour after your birth-until you are comfortable and your family is ready for quiet time together. She can also help with initial breast-feeding if you wish.
Your doula will be available for phone contact to answer questions about the birth or your baby. Your doula will visit you at least once within 7 days of the birth unless otherwise agreed upon.
Doulas do NOT
Perform clinical tasks, such as blood pressure, fetal heart checks, or vaginal exams.

Your doula is there to provide information, physical comfort, emotional support, and advocacy.
Make decisions for you. Your doula will help you get the information necessary to make an informed decision.
Speak to the staff instead of you regarding matters where decisions are being made.
Your doula will discuss your concerns with you and may suggest options, but you or your partner will speak on your behalf to the clinical staff.
